Ingham County violated animal shelter regulation laws, state investigation finds

A state investigation found there was sufficient evidence to show that the Ingham County Animal Control and Shelter violated Michigan law in its care of 50 dogs seized from a fighting ring.  The Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development found the shelter failed to sanitize kennels enough, did not have enough employees and did not properly register an auxiliary shelter it opened to deal with the excess of animals. The department may impose a fine of up to $1,000 for each violation of the Pet Shops, Dog Pounds and Animal Shelters Act. In summer 2017, more than 50 fighting dogs were seized from a fighting ring and taken to the shelter.
